Question: Who is the municipal court judge and does he/she have a local office?
Answer: Yazoo City Municipal Court Judge is Teselyn Funches.  Judge Teselyn Funches can be reached during courtroom hours on Wednesday’s beginning at 1:00PM.
Question: How often is municipal court held, and what are the hours?
Answer: Municipal court is held every Wednesday beginning at 1:00PM.
Question: Who is the municipal court clerk and deputy court clerks, and how can they be reached for information regarding municipal court?
Answer: Yazoo City Municipal Court Clerk is Barbara Edwards, and the Deputy Court Clerks are Yvonne Turnage and Ashley Johnson. Contact numbers are (662) 314-1017 for Barbara Edwards,  (662) 314-1014 for Yvonne Turnage and (662) 314-1016 for Ashley Johnson.
Question:  Where is the municipal court located and what are the hours of business?
Answer: Yazoo City Municipal Court is located in the Yazoo City Police Department headquarters at 305 Mike Espy Drive in Yazoo City, MS. The Office hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00AM until 4:00PM.
Question: How are fines collected for municipal court?
Answer: Traffic and criminal fines are collected daily between the hours of 7:00AM and 4:00PM.
Question: Do fines and costs have to be collected in full payments, or are partial payments acceptable?
Answer: Traffic and criminal fines are collected as agreed during court. Traffic fines are mostly collected in full payments, and criminal fines are collected in full or partial payments as designated by the court.
Question: Can traffic or criminal fines be paid by credit card or online?
Answer: Traffic and criminal fines can be paid in cash, or by check and money order only. We are equipped for, nor do we except credit card payments.
Question: What are the costs for dismissals?
Answer: A dismissal cost in Yazoo City Municipal Court is $50.00 and must be collected the day of dismissing violation.
Question: How are criminal convictions expunged?
Answer:

Criminal misdemeanor convictions may be expunged by the municipal court judge, if the following criteria are met:

  1. The conviction occurred in municipal court
  2. Prior notice is given to the prosecutor
  3. Showing of good conduct in a 2 year period since the last conviction
Question: Can traffic offenses be expunged?
Answer: Traffic violations are excluded from being expunged under section 99-19-71.
Question: Are criminal contempt issued by the municipal judge when a defendant fails to appear in municipal court?
Answer: When a defendant fails to appear in municipal court, the municipal court judge can issue a contempt of court warrant.
Question: Does a defendant have to appear in municipal court after posting a cash bond on misdemeanor offenses?
Answer: If a defendant feels that he or she is not guilty of a charged misdemeanor, traffic or criminal offense, the defendant may contest his or her charged violation by appearing on the scheduled court date. If the defendant fails to appear in court as scheduled, he or she can be found guilty in absence, and bail will be forfeited.
Question: Who is eligible for taking defensive driving courses, and can these classes be taken online?
Answer: Any licensed operator that has not attended a safety driver’s course. Those under the age of 21 can take a course online. Those of age 21 or older must attend a class before a live instructor.
Question: How can a traffic ticket be kept off of your driving record (motor vehicle report)?
Answer: A traffic ticket can be kept off your driving record (motor vehicle report) by attending a defensive driving course. Upon completion, information will be sent to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety for non-public recording.
Question: Are restraining orders issued in municipal court and is there a filing fee?
Answer: Restraining orders are not issued by municipal court. Only circuit and chancery court can issue a restraining order.
